Pros and cons, Train Dispatcher vs Train Master:
Trainmaster pros:
1. get to wear nice clothes, and designer safety glasses to meetings at Shoneys.
2. Have a nice big check, AND a schedule!
3. No experience neccessary......any college course will do!
4. Air conditioned offices (or heated, depending on season)
5. Lunch for free, on the superintendent!
Trainmaster cons:
1. Pesky calls at 2 AM from FRA wanting to banner test your area.
2. Clothes smell like poultry products after forgetting to remove extra eggs from pocket after placing eggs in all switch points to catch crews not checking them first.
3. Nice clothes and designer safety glasses stained/lost while crawlin through bushes looking for a good ambush point with FRA at 2 AM.
4. occasionally have to go out on the property, which means having to find other boot somewhere in that airconditioned office. May have to try geting away with one boot, and one loafer.
5. long uncomforatable pauses in conversation when shooting the bull with crews, and you tell your story 'bout the time I threw a switch!'
Train Dispatcher pros:
1. Thanks to centralization, you can piss off crews intentionally, and not worry bout runnin into them after your shift.
2. All the coffee you can drink!
3. get to play with a big bright interactive computer game!
4. when coffee runs out, and its 2am, and youre beat, just keep the lights on the board from runnin into each other. No brainer!
5. Get to enjoy all the excitement and drama of class 1 railroading from the comfort of your control station!
Train Dispatcher cons:
1. Thanks to centralization, you wont get to run into that crew that pissed YOU off after your trick is over!
2. having to deal with crews having mechanical difficulty (seems like every train has one go offline right bout that KFC and 7-11 by the road crossing outside of town.
3. lane coordinator takin over while you go to the can, and makin such a mess of things in 4 minutes that it takes 2 hours to clean it up. By that time, thanks to all the coffee, yyou gotta go back to the can and let him try again!
4. Having to listen to smart ass crews answer your question 'q222, how long are you?'
5. all those crews callin ya, and those flashing lights keep interupting your 45 minute hourly power naps!
So there you have it, ultimately the decision is up to you. But, if I could make a computer gaming recommendation, it would be to leave em both alone, and take up flight simulator!!!!!!!lol!
